The entire world is facing a pandemic which has left many starving or without their families. Covid has left the entire world on its feet, racing to find a vaccine, earning money for their families and trying to get home. This year has been very difficult for a majority of people. With this being said, there have been a few people who have come to the rescue for migrants and helped them to get home or get food on their plates. Obviously our front line workers are the real heroes but there have also been others who have helped otherwise. Let us take a look at a few of them.
Sonu Sood is an Indian film actor, producer, and humanitarian who acts predominantly in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Punjabi films. In these movies, he is mostly playing the role of a villain but during this pandemic, he has been playing the role of a hero. Let us see the contributions he has made for the people in India. In May 2020, a nationwide lockdown was announced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sonu Sood helped thousands of stranded Indian migrant workers to reach their homes by arranging buses, special trains and chartered flights for them. In July 2020 he arranged a chartered flight to bring home over 1,500 Indian students stranded in Kyrgyzstan, flying them from Bishkek to Varanasi. His charity during the pandemic was lauded. Therefore, he was hailed as a real-life hero in India.
Sonu Sood has also extended a helping hand towards the coronavirus warriors as he donated 25,000 face shields to Maharashtra Police personnel. Sonu has been receiving requests to help from all over India and he is making sure to fulfill all the requests. He also gave employment to many migrants, about 20,000 people. Sonu and his team have also distributed food.
Sonu has set an example, which each one of us can get some inspiration from to some extent. Fortunes may vary from person to person, but the humanity in us must not die. He, in very little time has helped thousands of migrants which has made him gain a high pedestal in society. Doesn’t this make him apart of real life heroes?
A COVID-19 relief fund was set up by PM Narendra Modi to prepare the country for the pandemic. Akshay Kumar contributed Rs 25 crore to this fund. He has been a hero in his movies and continues to be apart of the pandemic heroes to assist his country.
Bilal Khan, a 29-year old lawyer from Delhi is ensuring slum dwellers do not go hungry through his ‘Four for All’ initiative in the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic. Once the lockdown began, Bilal and his friends did a recce of all the slum areas. His core team ‘Four For All’ has helped distribute provisions to several households. Now they have a lot of people who are volunteering with them. So, all the work has been evenly distributed. They start at about 10:00 a.m. and the first batch of freshly cooked meals is ready and distributed by 1:30 – 2:00 p.m. The second batch of cooking happens at 5:00 pm and the food is distributed by about 8:00-8:30 pm.
Chhayarani Sahu, a 57-year-old farmer in Bhadrak district of Odisha has been distributing vegetables from her farm to nearby villages, sharing her profit with others during the countrywide lockdown. She distributes an assortment of vegetables like tomatoes, pumpkins, brinjals, ladyfingers, carrots, beets, ginger, coriander, green chilies as well as spinach all for free. And also distributes milk to the police personnel who she believes are the real fighters. She has arranged rickshaws to transport vegetables to other villages. Her team carries sanitizers with them and ensures that they maintain social distancing while they distribute these vegetables. By taking these initiatives, she is ensuring that she is able to feed the needy at a time when it matters the most. Being a female in a rural area, she still managed to become apart of the pandemic real-heroes.
P Naveenkumar, a 26-year-old social worker from Munsiyari in Tamil Nadu is doing his bit by distributing food, water and providing other forms of assistance to street dwellers during the pandemic, through his NGO Atchayam. His work is a great example of starting at grassroot level and influencing a larger cause. Naveen and his team have been distributing 400 packets of food, along with bottled water to people living on the streets of Erode in Tamil Nadu, every single day. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he has been working every day at the Erode Corporation School to ensure that all people including migrant workers and daily wagers are provided with food, clothing, medicines as well as other essential items. The team provides meals 4 times a day. They have been providing ration kits to over 200 families.
Supratik Chhaperia, a 25-year-old owns a designer cake shop in South Delhi who helped alleviate the distress of daily wage workers, the community hit the hardest during this period. He has been distributing more than 2000 kg of dry rations and ensuring that even animals don’t go hungry. He arranges funds, buys rations, prepares kits, loads it in his car and hands it to the police for distribution. Till now he has managed to give 550 kg of dog food to various animal shelters and also fed about 300 kg of spinach to cows around their area.
S. Veena, a transgender from Bengaluru is reaching out to transgenders, single women, and widows during the lockdown. Till now, she has distributed about 10,000 kilograms of rations. She began cooking 25 kilograms of rice every day, deftly making about 300 food packets and heading out to nearby low-income areas in Bengaluru to hand over the food. She has become apart of the real life heroes for the transgender community.
Vikas has distributed 25 million meals across India amid the COVID-19 pandemic, is now planning to provide essential rations and supplies to 10 million street vendors and their families hit by the pandemic. With the help of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the renowned chef has distributed rations, meals and essential supplies to a number of orphanages, old-age homes, leprosy centers, widow ashrams.
